Drummer found, Demos continue

We are pleased to announce that a drummer has been found for Conifevore. He brings over 20 years of experience with some of the best bands the extreme metal scene has to offer. We are confident that he will take the Conifevore sound to the next level.

Although this is an exciting time, it is not the time to reveal the lineup just yet. We are in talks with a bass player as well, and, until that is a lock, and the lineup is complete, we’re keeping our mouths relatively shut. We will talk about the lineup as soon as possible.

Demoing continues at a decent pace. We’re taking our time to explore the musical ideas and mold them into something that pushes the boundaries of the vision.

Our hope is to release a song before summer is over, and more will follow relatively quickly.

Thank you for all the support. We see you, and it is appreciated.

Writing and Demoing begins!

This week marked the true beginning of Conifevore’s initial demos and the path that will lead to an eventual debut full length. There’s probably enough material to cull two full-lengths from, but, one thing at a time.

I’ve been working with the main guitarist, someone whom I respect highly, and his passion to realize the vision of the project has really lit a fire in me to see this through. I wrote the skeletons of these songs over 20 years ago, and they’ve seen multiple evolutions in various projects from that era, and, coupled with my experience, are going to become something much greater.

I decided to employ a drummer other than myself on this, for multiple practical reasons; the largest of which is that the material demands more than the best I’ve ever had on offer. My guitarist cautioned me at showing such humility, reminding me of all I’ve accomplished, and I reminded him that, as writers, we often write above our ability. He relented, when combined with the knowledge that I have not seriously picked up a drumstick in over eight years.

I am confident that this is going to be something for old and new fans of the genre alike. Conifevore is literally about taking in influence and molding it into something new. We do not promise something ground breaking, but, we do offer something with true passion, grit, and intensity that so many extreme metal artists lack.

I run the risk of rambling here, but I will leave you with this:

This project has been a long, long time coming. When we finally unleash some finished demos, it is our hope you will see the potential for the art on display.

We don’t want to change the world – we just want to add some heart to it… by ripping your faces off.

You’ll hear from us soon; that is a promise.

Guitar Tones

We’re currently trying to procure a guitar tone that would make dISEMBOWELMENT shit themselves.  More as it… develops.

There’s the good news, and then there’s…

…weird news.

The deeper I get into writing, the more evident my prowess (or a distinct lack thereof) on the guitar becomes. It is, at the same time, both invigorating and infuriating.

Tonight, I went from saying my cat’s name, to humming it, to hurriedly snatching up my guitar, and hammering out a few riffs (well, first on bass, actually), all within a matter of minutes. In my earliest writings on keyboard, that would never have happened – I just banged around until something sounded good. This was the first time I’ve ever gone from hum to strum, as a nearly instant process.

It’s giving me fuel to practice, and I need that.

Thanks List (a work in progress)

The Queen, for all the support, love, and respect (you always “got it”, even when I didn’t); Madison, my daughter, for being fuel for the fire of expression; Joe Henderson (for kicking me in the ass by putting a guitar in my hand), Alex Johnson (enthusiasm factory), Brian “Tix” Bourque, for reminding me that it all means something to someone; Mom, for life and everything that goes with it; and Dad, for teaching me that a man has to stand his ground.

Adam, David, & Tom of Cardiac Arrest, for all those years; Mike, Adam, & Sam of Sallah for reminding me how much fun music could be; Kai Kauffman, for being the best engineer I’ll ever work with; John & Jill McEntee; Chuck (for knowing before I did); David Richards; the whole 3rd shift crew; The Biz; ULC; Shaun Pile; Adam M.I.; Aaron Blast; Vader; D-Rod, Mad Mike, and the entire user base of DerekRoddy.com, for never-ending, unconditional support.

The forefathers of hardcore punk, crust, grind, and death metal, for starting it all – Death, Disrupt, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Sinister, Carcass, MDC, Crass, Queen, Impetigo, S.O.D., Poison Idea, Nirvana, Bad Religion, and Tears For Fears… Without you, we have nothing.

Epiphone, Mesa Boogie, Vater Cabinets, Ubisoft, Pearl, Axis, Saluda, Vater, Guild, DW, and Fender…

Godzilla, Spider-Man, Rorshach, and Cannibal Corpse, for being the best figments of imagination a guy could ask for.

To Grant Imahara, we thank you for always challenging our logic, reinforcing our imaginations, and championing our evolution. You are missed, Sir.

“Why are you a vegetarian?”

I’m a vegetarian for primarily health-related reasons:  I simply feel better on this diet.

I’ve always been an animal lover, and issues surrounding animal rights have always been near and dear to my heart.  To be fair, it should be mentioned that Disrupt & early Napalm Death are mainly responsible for my interest in the extreme facets of the sub-culture.  Over the years, a piqued interest evolved into a full-blown desire to make a serious change, as my overall health was in a state of decline.  My options were limited as to what kind of lifestyle changes I had the option to make.  Ultimately, eliminating meat did the trick, and I’m happy to be say it stuck.

As of this writing, I have been on a completely meatless diet for over 18 months, with no signs of stopping.

“What happened to I Am Now?”

Good question! What many of you knew as I Am Now grew into what is now (no pun intended) Conifevore.  Many of the collaborators that Jim wanted to be a part of I Am Now simply were too busy to commit at the level needed.  As a result, Jim was forced to rethink a lot of his strategy with regard to how to approach the material he was imagining.  Some of the artists that Jim wanted to guest on portions of I Am Now may still lend their services to Conifevore – it all depends on where the material goes.

Writing

Conifevore is writing!

Jim is riffing away on a trusty SG, and, when he’s not doing that, he’s working out lyrics, rhythm patterns, or just plain humming! Focus is on organic song structures that make sense. Crowbar, Severe Torture, Disrupt, and Napalm Death are in the rotation for inspiration.
